Building a Better Columbia Through Responsible Design and Construction

Columbia has set a goal of reevaluating how we manage design and construction to be as responsible and sustainable as possible. Here's how Operations is helping:

Responsible Construction
Operations is supporting the University's goal by:
  • Contributing to and adopting a Columbia policy that sets clear sustainability requirements for all elements of design and construction, pushes Columbia beyond guidelines and code, addresses perceived restraints, and ensures alignment with the University’s GHG emissions reduction goals.
  • Developing action plans that provide tactical guidelines to make sustainability a part of our Design and Construction culture.
What we've already accomplished:
  • We put in place a policy that all new construction and renovation project designs must meet the LEED Silver certification level.
  • We implemented new design requirements that support Columbia's sustainability goals and that must be utilized for all new campus development projects.
