Commencement Setup/Alternate Access Routes - April 10 to May 14

Commencement setup on campus will begin Friday, April 10, lasting through May 14. As the University works to assemble the stage and bleachers for Commencement over this time, you will likely encounter detours and alternate access routes on lower and upper campus. Here is an overview of what you can expect at various times during Commencement setup:

  • At least one access point between upper campus and College Walk will remain available throughout the setup process. It is possible that either the Dodge or Kent Hall elevators to upper campus will not be available, but at least one will always be accessible. (As a reminder, the Kent Hall entrance is available only during building hours.)
  • Both ramps between College Walk and lower campus (adjacent to Pulitzer Hall and Hamilton Hall) will remain available during the setup process.
  • At least one east-west pathway between Broadway and Amsterdam at 116th Street will always be available. Expect closures of College Walk, the north pedestrian pathway, and the south pedestrian pathway throughout Commencement setup, with at least one of those routes always available.
  • Around South Field and Butler Library, expect the closing at times of the east-west pathway below the Sundial (also known as Centennial Path) and of the north-south pathways at the perimeter of Butler Lawn.
  • The precise timing of the Butler Lawn perimeter pathway closures is subject to weather and other conditions, but the pathways are currently projected to be closed periodically during the week of April 20 when the flooring is delivered; May 7 and May 8 when the tent is installed; and May 12 through Commencement and days that follow it until load-out of materials is completed. During these periods, the north-south pathways along Furnald and Hamilton lawns will remain open, with access to the College Walk ramps.
  • A temporary ramp will be installed on the Dodge Hall plaza (on upper campus) when the regular route is unavailable in order to facilitate access from the Dodge elevator on upper campus to Lewisohn, Earl and Low Library.
  • A temporary ramp will be installed on Kent Plaza (on upper campus) when the regular route is unavailable.
