The Locksmith Shop makes keys for all academic and administrative departments and buildings. For security reasons, the duplication of keys by outside locksmiths is strictly prohibited.
Lock-out and access services are provided, with Public Safety Department approval, to all academic and administrative departments and buildings except Columbia Undergraduate Housing and Columbia Residential. Lost keys must be immediately reported to Public Safety.
Most locksmith services are chargeable to the requesting department. Fees are assessed as follows:
- During regular business hours, services are billed at the overtime hourly rate (minimum one hour), plus the cost of materials.
- On evenings, weekends and University holidays, services are billed at a higher hourly rate, plus the cost of materials.
