Painting Services

Operations provides painting services to all academic and administrative departments.

Painting is a non-chargeable service for public space areas including:

  • Corridors
  • Stairwells
  • Registrar-controlled classrooms
  • Restrooms

All painting services provided to the following departments and spaces are billable (hourly labor rate, plus materials):

  • Dining Services
  • Faculty House
  • Columbia Residential
  • Departmentally-owned classrooms
  • Offices
  • Laboratories
  • Other departmental spaces

Information needed to develop an estimate:

  • Days/times when the worksite may be visited:
    • To determine an estimate, and for the painting work itself. If the office is to be painted during evening or weekend hours, the painters may be paid overtime wages, per the University's collective bargaining agreement with the Union.
  • Approximate size of the space:
    • How many square feet of wall space? Are there four solid walls? Will the ceiling be painted?
  • If the office is furnished:
    • If furnished, laborers will be needed to remove the furniture and replace after the job is completed.
  • Condition of the walls and ceiling:
    • Will two coats of paint do the trick, or will repairs be necessary (e.g., re-plastering, sealing cracks, filling holes, etc.)?
  • Shelving and windows:
    • Approximately how many built-in shelves and books are there? Is the entire length of one wall filled with mounted bookshelves, or are there only two four-foot long shelves?  How many windows are there?
