Facilities and Operations has added another tent outside Furnald Hall for the spring term to help facilitate safe, small gatherings, joining the four other tents that were built in the fall.
The new tent is intended to increase covered outdoor locations that can be used for small classes, social gatherings, dining spaces, and leisure, based on guidance from health experts that activities held outdoors are the safest setting when health and safety guidelines are followed.
Like the tented spaces at Ancell Plaza and Hamilton Lawn, the Furnald tent has a capacity of approximately 50 people and can be reserved by schools and departments through Event Management. These tents become available for the community to use outside reservation hours.
Community tenting is also available at Dodge Plaza and Fairchild Plaza daily between 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and can be used without prior reservation.
To further support and meet the demand for outdoor space use, additional outdoor seating amenities have been installed throughout the Morningside campus, including at East Campus, Fairchild, Havemeyer, the International Affairs Building terrace, Mudd, and Revson Plaza. Seating is available for use year-round.
The Columbia community is required to follow New York State and University event guidelines as well as the University’s Health Compact while using these spaces, including wearing a face covering and maintaining six feet of distance between others.
