We are entering summer’s first heat wave, with the National Weather Service issuing an Extreme Heat Watch for New York City and its surrounding region in effect from Sunday, June 22 through Tuesday, June 24. The National Weather Service is predicting dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 109 degrees Fahrenheit possible. Highest temperatures and heat indices are expected Monday and Tuesday.

Clean + Go Green is back at the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses on Wednesday, July 9 through Friday, July 11.  Donate your unwanted items to create more space and help the environment.

The annual Morningside Campus Steam Shutdown is scheduled to begin at 9:00pm on Thursday, May 22, 2025.  Steam service will be restored to the Campus at approximately 9:00pm on Friday, May 23, 2025. 

Facilities and Operations has installed benches along the southwest plot on College Walk adjacent to Pulitzer Hall to add more casual seating areas. Following the bench installation, an assortment of seasonal flowers are being added to the landscaping around the benches.

As part of regular grounds maintenance, Facilities and Operations will be replacing several cherry trees along College Walk with new cherry trees.

Due to recent high winds and precipitation, our Grounds team and arborists surveyed trees along College Walk out of an abundance of caution. As a result of the assessment, the arborist recommended that several trees be removed for safety concerns due to the trees' declining health, including trunk decay and other irreversible conditions.

Facilities and Operations and the Columbia College Student Council (CCSC) have partnered together to install tampon and pad dispensers in the laundry room of the major undergraduate residence halls. The products are provided free of charge.  

Similar to previous years, Facilities and Operations completed a number of projects during winter break, including lighting upgrades, residence hall enhancements, and classroom refreshes.

With winter upon us and temperatures expected to stay near or below freezing for the coming weeks, we want to remind you how you can protect campus spaces from damaging situations, such as frozen or burst pipes.
